This is where I think nintendo is failing a bit and it ties into what said about co-development and such. Indies proved it's there, splatoon and mario kart prove it's there. Maybe they won't be the most popular console out there doing that but there is an under served market. If you ask me nintendo needs to pursue the alternative. Of course pursuing those policies isn't going to make them want to port games to weaker hardware, specially since they're created a generation of graphics obsessed gamers. They're making it so expensive to develop games that no one except the big mega corps can do it. We always ask why are third parties pushing tech so much, pushing graphics so hard to the point it's becoming or has become impossible to fund development of a game? They're throwing their weight around to reduce competition. It largely prevents them from making games on weaker hardware. That to me is 3rd party whining and excuses.Ī big part of the problem now is the business strategy many third parties have adopted. Most games wern't big enough to max out one of those discs at the time. The mini-dvd thing though is so overblown to me.

Ok sure carts were legitmiately more expensive, plus nintendo had their iron fist policies that drove them away. Thu 3rd Aug I blame some of the hardware complaints on 3rd parties though.Hopefully Rabbids will do very well to encourage that. It massively increases their own development capacity, keeps the budget almost all internalized as though it's 1st party, gives them tons of Nintendo-only games, and gives the big publishers a real chance to tap the Nintendo market that they've always lacked.

Co-fund/develop unique exclusives with the big publishers rather than just pay them to bring their PC games to yet another system. What I'd like to see Nintendo do is more like the Rabbids project. Yeah, Sony's everybody's sugar daddy in this business (until they decide to disappear you, then they just cut off the tap), and MS has tried to match them in that game (though they're realizing endless spending on bribes isn't netting rewards so they've retracted to their safe space of funding mostly online shooters and sports games.)īut is it really a healthy industry when no "independent" large publisher can fund their own works and is just dependent on funding from platform holders? not sure WHAT they are evaluating I'm not sure that's a healthy mode for the entirety of the industry to be in. Not that XX won't dominate 're still "evaluating".
